Word from the Elders: December 2018

Sonlife Communications Pastor's Word

Greetings Sonlifers,

I am excited about the new approach to Connect Groups for 2019, which Ps Binh outlined for Connect Leaders recently. What excites me is not just doing something fresh and different, but the a renewed and intentional focus on discipleship.

The Bible clearly tells us that our primary prerogative as Christians is ultimately to be and make disciples (Ephesians 5:1-2, Matt 28:19). To be a disciple of Jesus is to be part of an ongoing journey that lasts until we meet the Lord face to face. It is a journey of spiritual growth (2 Peter 1:5-8), and the wonderful thing is that it is not a lonely journey! We never have to grow alone. Not only is the Lord always with us, but God calls us to grow as part of a family, and that’s how we can be truly fruitful (Eph 4:15,16).

One of my greatest joys is seeing people grow in the Lord. I can testify that many Sonlifers I known over the last 6 years are no longer the same. They are much more prayerful, stronger in God’s word, have more faith in what God can do through them, and are more focussed and passionate in serving Him and leading others to do so. In fact, I am one of those people too! I know I am significantly different to the person I was when I first joined Sonlife Church. Glory to God! And the greatest joy is that I have been growing and changing alongside all these other Sonlifers. We encourage each other as iron sharpens iron (Prov 27:17).

My challenge for Sonlifers in 2019 is to commit to attending Connect Group regularly. Or if you have been attending for a while, consider leading a group: you don’t need to be spiritual giant, just someone who desires to grow in the Lord and help others do so as well. That’s real discipleship!

Blessings,

Simon
